Brief description of the organization
PINA conducts local and international activities that support bottom-up innovation, participatory approaches, and the intersection of arts and science. It leverages microgranting and seed funding schemes to mobilize under-represented groups, including early-career researchers, local communities, NGOs, and artists, supporting them to transform innovative ideas into actionable projects. The organization’s work emphasizes both the tangible outcomes and the transformative potential of the creative process, connecting stakeholders across academic, civil society, and governance networks.
Our contribution to the RISTANC project
Within RISTANC, PINA plays a strategic coordinating role across communication, participation, and art–science integration. As lead partner for Dissemination, Exploitation and Communication, PINA develops and implements the project’s communication strategy, ensuring that results reach diverse audiences at local, national, and EU levels.
PINA also leads the participatory dimension of the project by coordinating the Local Engagement Group, which brings together key stakeholders influencing decision-making and practices related to the sea. This platform strengthens dialogue, shared understanding, and collaborative approaches to marine sustainability.
In addition, PINA connects science and art through dedicated art–science activities that strengthen public engagement and open innovative ways of reflecting on marine challenges towards Mission Ocean objectives. The organisation also designs and implements a microgranting scheme to support small-scale experimental initiatives, encouraging bottom-up innovation and community-driven action.
